Judo is a sport that has throwing and grappling techniques to suit all shapes and sizes. It is a fighting sport where participants can go 100% without having to hold back, safe in the knowledge that techniques applied correctly will neither injure their opponent or themselves. This makes a Judo player specialised at close-in fighting – which is what is generally needed for effective self-defence. Hill Judo Academy will develop each ‘Judoka’ with correct form in the essential elements of Judo and incorporate continual variation in drills and technique development. The benefits of doing Judo at Hill Sports Academy are numerous. As well as the social side of meeting new people, it also develops confidence, coordination, balance, falling skills, efficiency of movement, and self-defence skills. Judo is great for improving physical fitness, flexibility and strength and is also an excellent complement to other sports.

These classes develop specific Judo skills but with a high “game” element. Safe falling skills are developed to increase the ability to relax during the fall. Kids Judo is coached by Steven and Tom Hill who have been coaching juniors for over twenty years both at the elite level and beginner level.
- Kids Judo is unique in teaching skills of falling without injury thus reducing the likelihood of injury in other sports.
- Self-control and respect for the rules and for others are integral to Judo and are fostered through partner and team activity.
- Children who are overweight or obese can achieve and gain physical and emotional benefits from their participation in Judo.
- Judo is an effective and realistic self defense method.
- Judo is based on standing, grappling and gymnastic movements and not kicking and punching.

Judo as a sport has numerous benefits for females and has been an Olympic sport for females since Seoul, 1988. Since females have been accepted into these elite fields Australia has gained a Gold medal and two Bronze in Seoul and a Bonze medal at the Sydney Olympics proving that it is an area that Australian women can excel. For self defence Judo has tremendous benefits. With the consistent grappling in Judo each lesson is continual training for a moment when an attacker may have to be repelled. There excellent programs used at Hill Sport Academy that deal strictly with self defence using Judo based techniques.
Having trained two female Olympians and many more National champions the Hill Sports Academy Judo Coaches Steven and Tom look forward to continuing and improving on this already impressive legacy in female Judo.
